PAS Mountains, Forests, and Lakes for Alder Hey Charity
20 members of the PASNW team are swapping hard hats for hiking boots this summer in the name of charity.
PAS NW Ltd has further strengthened its senior leadership team with the appointment of Lee Jones as Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) Director. Our team will be heading up to the rugged peaks of the Lake District as prepare to push limits for a cause close to our hearts.
"Mental health support shouldn't be a luxury for our children—it should be a given," says Ste Newton, one of the organisers of the event at PAS.
“That's why we're taking on three extreme challenges in one day.”
The groundworks specialists are facing their toughest fitness challenge to date having collectively shed 100 kilos post Christmas (by February) and then completing 10,000 steps a day in March.
The formidable Coniston Challenge 2025 is a gruelling triathlon comprising a 10km mountain trek, 17km forest bike ride, and 3km lake kayak—all to support Alder Hey Children's Charity's vital mental health initiative.
The '7 in 10 Children's Mental Health Appeal' addresses a critical gap in children's healthcare, with statistics showing that seven in ten young people now experience mental health challenges.
Fraser Linaker, PAS NW Ltd Managing Director, said: "As a company with deep roots in the North West, we believe in throwing our weight behind the causes that need support and when Ste Newton put this challenge in front of the Management Team, it was one we just had to do.
“Alder Hey Children's Hospital is one of the best in the country and it's one we want to support as a local business that really cares.”
Fraser added: "Furthermore, as we head into Mental Health Awareness Week for the construction sector, it's switched us onto other factors that are in play outside the site gates. Supporting children's mental health creates foundations for a stronger future and if we can help just one person, then it would all be worth it."
The team has began training through rain, wind, and occasional sunshine to prepare for the triple challenge that will test their endurance across Cumbria's most iconic landscapes.
PAS is mobilising its entire supply chain to support the fundraising effort, with several partners already pledging matching donations.
